How do you ensure that 300,000 visitors can truly access the information they need? A Swedish agency collaborated with Curious Mind to improve digital accessibility for people with visual impairments. Our team conducted a comprehensive accessibility audit, identified and resolved over 30 areas of improvement while upgrading the entire CMS infrastructure. The result: a digital platform where all visitors, regardless of ability, can easily access the information they need.

Challenge

The agency, with the mandate to ensure that Sweden lives up to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, needed to ensure that its 300,000 annual visitors could find the information they needed. During a restructuring and CMS upgrade, it was crucial to maintain and improve accessibility for the target audience, particularly screen reader users.

Our approach

Curious Mind conducted comprehensive structural work where accessibility was the guiding principle. The structural work was combined with a CMS upgrade where accessibility for design, navigation and content was reviewed.

Our team performed detailed assessments of the structural prototype in the test environment and identified, as well as prioritized critical issues before launch. We created an agile workflow with Jira to manage cross-functional collaboration between developers, designers and content specialists. The method included systematic restructuring of content from an accessibility perspective, an update of the governing framework and training programs to ensure long-term compliance with accessibility requirements.

Impact

The transformation delivered measurable results for both the agency and its users. We successfully resolved over 30 critical accessibility issues within design, content and development. Most importantly, the authority now provides its 300,000 annual visitors with a fully accessible digital experience that aligns with the mission to support people with disabilities. The updated governance documents and trained content managers ensure continued compliance with accessibility requirements and continuous improvement.
